FIELD SPORTS ADULT VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE RULES

General Rules
1.       Matches will be played 6 on 6.
2.       A match will consist of three sets.
3.       All matches will be played with rally scoring (no side outs).
   a.       If the serving team wins a rally, it scores a point and continues to serve.
   b.       If the receiving team wins a rally, it scores a point and gains the serve.
4.       The first two sets will be played to 25 points, and a team must win by two points. The third set will be played to 15 points, and a team must win by two points.
5.       Points are awarded for each set won. The first two sets of a match are worth two points each. The third and final set is worth one point. League standings will be determined by total points.
6.       Each team will have one time-out per set, lasting one minute in length. Time-outs do not carry over.
7.       Prior to each match a coin-toss will decide which team serves and which receives. The visiting team shall call the toss. The winner shall choose either to serve or receive. The team not serving first in the first set shall serve first in the next set. Prior to the third set, another coin-toss will decide serve/receive. The visiting team shall call the toss. The winner shall choose to serve/receive or the playing area. The loser of the toss shall be given the remaining choice.
8.       When a loss of a rally occurs, the team preparing to serve shall rotate clockwise one position. You may only substitute on side-outs.
9.       For substitutions, the new player will enter at the serving position. The first receiving team is not required to substitute when first gaining the serve.
10.   Liberos will not be used.
11. The time period between sets of a match shall be no more than three minutes

Serving
1.       The server shall hit the ball with one hand, fist or arm while the ball is held or after it is released.
2.       Servers may serve overhand or underhand.
3.       Let serves (serves that hit the net and cross over) are legal and therefore playable.
4.    Servers may not step over back line during service.

Playing the Ball
1.       When any part of the ball touches any part of the boundary line it is considered “in”.
2.       Players are permitted to run out of bounds to play a ball.
3.       Players may not touch the net. A ball hit into the net may be played as long as no player touches the net.
4.       The ball must be returned over the net on the third contact.
5.       A ball is out of bounds and becomes dead when it:
  
a. Touches a wall, objects mounted flush with a wall, or objects on the floor outside the court without interfering with a player’s legitimate effort to play the ball;
  
b. Touches the floor completely outside the court’s boundary lines;
  
c. Touches the net antennas above or within the net or does not pass over the net entirely between the net antennas;
  
d. Touches the net cables or net not completely inside the antenna, net supports or first referee’s platform;
  
e. Touches a non-player who is not interfering with a player’s legitimate effort to play the ball;
  
f. Touches the ceiling or overhead obstructions beyond the vertical plane of the net and its out-of-bounds extension;
  
h. Touches any part of a backboard or its base.

Illegal Hits
1.       Carries and lifts will be called if a ball comes visibly to rest in a player’s arms, hands or other body part.
2.       Reaching over the net to strike a ball will only be legal on an attempted block of a spike from the opponent. All other attempts over the net will be deemed illegal.
3.       All contact with the net will be considered illegal and a point awarded to the other team.
4.       No player in the back row may spike a ball front of the attack line, 10’ from net. 

House Rules
1.       All coed teams must have at least two females on the court at all times. There are no rules regarding where male/females may be positioned.
2.       Foot hits are legal.
3.       Rosters must be set by the third week of competition. All changes after the deadline must be approved by league administrator.
4.      You may play with 5 players without forfeit.
5.      Net height will be set at 7’4 for Coed Leagues
6.   For Recreational Level Coed play:
   a. Men on back row may not move forward and spike inside the marked 10 ft line.
   b. Men may not jump serve.

Standings
Final standings will be based on the following criteria:
1. League Points (win/loss)
2. Head to head matchups
3. Total game points earned 

Field Sports volleyball rules may be modified as needed for the enjoyment of our participants and guests.
